Detailed analysis
Meltblown media are formed by blowing molten polymer into fine, randomly layered microfibers, trapping particles across the full media depth. This gives good dirt-holding capacity at low cost and a graded pore structure, but limited total surface area.
Pleating folds the media to pack a much larger area into the same envelope, dramatically lowering pressure drop and raising flow capacity and dirt-holding. Pleating is also what enables consistent absolute ratings, because the media can be a controlled, fine layer rather than a thick random mat.
In high-flow elements the two are complementary: a meltblown or graded depth pre-layer can sit ahead of a pleated fine layer, but the high-flow performance itself comes from the pleated construction.
When to choose — Meltblown Depth
Meltblown depth media suit economical pre-filtration and coarse bulk clarification where surface area and absolute rating are not critical.

Pleated media are the standard for high-flow main filtration, delivering low pressure drop, high flow and absolute ratings.
