Detailed analysis
Polypropylene is the workhorse high-flow medium: chemically compatible with most acids, bases and aqueous fluids, binder-free and economical. It covers nominal to fine grades from 1 to 100 µm and suits water treatment, chemicals and general process liquids up to around 80 °C.
Glass fiber uses fine borosilicate microfibers to achieve higher efficiency and true absolute ratings at comparable flow, plus tolerance of higher temperatures. This makes it the medium of choice for condensate polishing, amine filtration and other critical fine-filtration duties.
The two are often used together — a PP pre-filter protects a finer glass-fiber polishing stage, balancing cost and performance across the system.
When to choose — Polypropylene (PP)
Choose PP for economical general filtration, broad chemical compatibility and pre-filtration where a nominal or fine rating is sufficient.
When to choose — Glass Fiber (GF)
Choose glass fiber where absolute-rated fine filtration, higher efficiency or higher temperature tolerance is required — e.g. condensate or amine polishing.

Frequently asked questions
Is glass fiber always better than polypropylene?
No — it is higher efficiency but also higher cost. For general and pre-filtration duties PP is often the more economical and entirely adequate choice.
Can I use PP for condensate polishing?
Absolute-rated glass fiber is generally preferred for condensate polishing because of its higher efficiency and temperature tolerance; PP is better suited to lower-temperature general filtration.
