Pressure Drop / Differential Pressure (ΔP)
Definition
The difference in pressure between the inlet and outlet of a filter, indicating flow resistance and the degree of media loading.
A clean high-flow element typically shows a differential pressure of 0.05–0.15 bar at rated flow. As the element captures contaminant, ΔP rises steadily until the recommended change-out threshold of roughly 1.5–2.5 bar is reached.
Pressure drop depends on flow rate, fluid viscosity, micron rating and available filter area. Oversizing filter area (more or longer elements) lowers ΔP, extends service life and reduces energy costs.
