Chemical Compatibility
Definition
The suitability of a filter’s media and seal materials for the fluid being filtered, over the operating temperature and pressure range.
Both the filter media (e.g. PP, glass fiber) and the seal material (EPDM, Viton/FKM, silicone, Buna-N) must resist the process fluid to avoid swelling, degradation or leaching. The wrong seal is a common cause of premature failure.
Selection considers acids, bases, solvents, oils and temperature. For aggressive or high-temperature media, Viton/FKM seals and glass-fiber media are frequently specified.
