Cooling-Water Filtration in Industry & Power Plants
Open recirculating cooling systems continuously pick up airborne dust, silt, biofilm debris and corrosion products. High-flow side-stream (kidney-loop) filtration keeps the circulating water clean, protecting heat exchangers, spray nozzles and instrumentation and reducing unplanned downtime.
The challenge in this industry
Suspended-solids build-up in the loop
Dust and silt drawn into cooling towers accumulate and settle in basins and low-flow zones.
Fouling of exchangers & nozzles
Particulate deposits reduce heat-transfer efficiency and block distribution nozzles.
Corrosion-product particulate
Iron oxides and scale flakes circulate and abrade or clog downstream components.
Where it applies in a cooling system
- Side-stream (kidney-loop) filtration on the cooling-tower basin
- Basin sweeping / continuous clean-up
- Protection of plate and shell-and-tube heat exchangers
- Make-up water prefiltration
- Pre-filtration ahead of finer polishing filters
What high-flow filtration does here
High-flow elements remove suspended solids, silt and corrosion-product particulate from the circulating water. Dissolved hardness and scaling potential are handled by chemical treatment — the filter removes the particles, not the dissolved load.
Housing & elements from one source
We supply the high-flow side-stream elements and a matching housing from one source — carbon steel or 304 with generic micron ratings to suit your loop — one specification, one contact.

Frequently asked questions
Should side-stream filtration treat the full flow?
Usually not. A side-stream typically filters a fraction of the circulating flow continuously, which is enough to keep the whole loop clean over time at a fraction of the filter size.
Does it replace chemical treatment?
No. It removes suspended solids and corrosion particulate; scale and corrosion inhibition still come from your water-treatment programme. The two work together.
